Vegetable oils like palm oil and soybean oil are used for a variety of purposes including the production of food and cosmetics as well as biofuels and oleochemicals. During the refining process certain elemental impurities can be converted into toxic compounds, while others can have a negative impact on refining equipment and catalysts. The purity of finished products and their suitability for the intended purpose must be ensured as a final step prior to further processing into food, consumer goods, or fuels. Chemical analysis of raw vegetable oils, intermediates and finished products is therefore required at different stages of the refining process.

This web seminar will provide a brief overview of the vegetable oils market, their uses, and the different stages from harvest to finished products. Analytical technologies for the detection of metals and non-metals, as well as other relevant quality parameters, will be discussed and compared. Sample preparation strategies that help increase the productivity and efficiency of analytical laboratories will be presented alongside analyzer configurations and accessories that facilitate reliable routine analysis of vegetable oils and their products.
